Detox and Deep Cleanse

Your skin care has taken a back seat and the trusty make-up wipe has been your skin’s saviour (just about.) It’s served it’s purpose, but it’s safe to say your skin is in need of a deep cleansing treatment. Alas! After cleansing and removing make-up, we recommend applying our award winning Charcoal Masque. This deep cleansing clay mask will help to absorb and remove skin impurities in no time, while the Walnut shell will help to gently buff away any uneven skin texture.

Tips to Survive Summer Festivals

Festival season is just around the corner – that means music, partying and hopefully some beautiful weather! Don’t forget Perspirex for those hot days, so you can safely concentrate on enjoying the music with your arms in the air.

We are approaching high season for summer music festivals. Every week, a new festival will have something to offer all genres of music lovers. Whether you are a seasoned festival-goer, have experienced festivals a few times or are a beginner, here are some things to anticipate to and be ready.

Many look forward to free-spirited fun filled times with friends, breaking the routine from their everyday busy lives and relaxing to good music in the twilight.  However, be prepared for long line-ups for toilets and washing stations.  You may want to think about putting together a festival kit that most will envy.

We recommend that you pack the usual items including sunscreen, water, toilet paper and something for a headache.  Always have cleansing wipes or hand sanitizers at hand when you need it most. Dry Shampoo is also an ingenious product to include in your kit, which helps revitalize your the hair.

Also be sure to use Perspirex antiperspirant as part of your evening routine before going to the festival. This ensures that you are protected from perspiration and sweating for up to 3-5 days. If the festival lasts longer, just bring Perspirex and apply it after a wash on dry skin before bed.

How do you handle situations with a high amount of stress – like weddings?

In light of the upcoming wedding season, we thought some advice on sweat control may come in handy. Weddings are beautiful, elegant occasions full of love and shared with friends and family. People love to dream about their own wedding day, but we often forget how stressful they really are. Psychologists consider weddings to be one of the most stressful of life’s typical milestones. It makes sense – the bride and groom want everything to be perfect. Unfortunately, high stress situations can be a significant source of nervous sweating.

If you’re the type of person who has sweat issues like hyperhidrosis, these high stress situation have an extra layer of difficulty. Worrying about perfection causes sweating, and this sweating makes you even more flustered, continuing the sweaty cycle. No one wants extensive sweating to distract them from what’s really important.

Don’t let sweat overshadow your day. For starters, work on minimizing the source of the stress. Choose professionals that you trust to handle all of the organization. You should have high confidence in the people who help you prepare so that you can relax and let them take the reins. It’s also good to surround yourself with positive people who help you stay calm. Once you’ve done that, you can rest a bit easier. When the big day finally arrives, choose a reliable antiperspirant that you can trust, like Perspirex. You can be assured that your day will be all about your wedding, and not your sweating.

Mesmoreyes Review (and Farleyco fun)

The more time I spend at Farleyco, the more I get assimilated into the beauty world. In the past months I’ve been excited by concealer, liquid eyeliner and hair chalk – Three things I’ve never used in my life. Well, time for another addition: false lashes! Before these, I’ve only ever used mascara. Now I’ve adorned myself with yet another cosmetic product. Hello, MesmorEyes!

I’ve always found false lashes to be beautiful additions to a look. It can give you subtle enhancement like Rasilla from In a Nutshell, or show stopping DRAMA like Ashleigh from Murdock Talks! (Both great reviews). I’ve just never had the occasion or motivation to actually purchase them. But, like with the previous reviews, what better opportunity than now?

I like my eyelashes on their own, but these falsies really wowed me. Here are some comparisons:

LOOK AT THOSE EYELASHES!! I couldn’t stop blinking. I think I made a personal Snapchat record that day. They felt comfortable and the band was thinner than I expected. The lashes are made of real hair and the Mesmoreyes glue is latex and formaldehyde free, so won’t irritate even sensitive eyes. And I’m glad they’re reusable – can’t wait to use them again! Also, I was lucky that Mesmoreyes has a walkthrough not only on the back of the package, but also online as a video tutorial. It was still tricky since I’ve never done it before, but I can easily imagine that I would’ve been in front of the mirror FAR longer without the video.

Voila: The final result!

FUN SIDENOTE: I tested the Mesmoreyes and the Kabuki brush on the same day, and I decided to try to make this the most Farleyco-full look possible. So in that picture I used the: Mesmoreyes lash kit, Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush, and Shading Brush; Styli-style Aloe Concealer Stick, Stylus liquid eyeliner, Dramatic Dip loose eyeshadow and Line & Seal 24 Eyeliner (Plum); Profactor Cosmetic Headband (to keep hair out of my face); and I washed my face first with the EcoTools Pure Complexion Sponge! Bahaha I love my job.

ANYWAY, if you’re interested in trying Mesmoreyes, a variety of their lashes are available across select retailers, or at Farleyco.ca! (Retailers for any of the aforementioned products are listed on the linked webpages).

Splat Hair Chalk!

Hello everyone, Emma here again!

This past Friday a colleague from the office had an end-of-year barbeque for her kids’ elementary school, so she brought Splat Hair Chalk for them to try out. She said it was a lot of fun and the kids were chalking their hair all day.

Splat Chalk BBQ
(CUTE!)

Now, I’ve always wanted to dye my hair different colour, but I’m a chicken. When I was a kid I wanted red bangs, but my mom told me horror stories of hair bleaching and discoloured roots and waiting for it to grow out – what a nightmare! I’ve been scared ever since. It’s probably good though because my hair has always been quite healthy. (Last summer I chopped it off to donate it, which I couldn’t have done if I had bleached it in real life.) But I digress! I’m happy my hair is healthy, but I’ve still always wanted some colour up there. Enter Splat Hair Chalk! When I heard about the barbeque event, I looked into the product. Seems easy and washes right out – no commitment! I had to try it out and I’m glad I did.

I chose my favourite colour: blue. “Midnight Blue” to be exact. The directions for application are very straightforward: (1) Light layer of hairspray. (2) Apply the chalk directly from the palette by holding it against your thumb and sliding it down your hair. (3) Give one more spritz of hairspray to hold the colour in. Spray, slide, spray; sounds good to me!

(Using a webcam as a mirror for this pic was serious business)

There was a lot of powder and it definitely covers your hands (and where the hair touches your face), so do it in the bathroom. But all that colour washed right off with soap and water, and once the second layer of hairspray was on it hardly transferred onto my skin!

Image

And this was the result! I was a bit worried because my hair is dark, but I got my blue streaks and it held all day. Before I began I also checked to see if other bloggers had any advice, and Jayne over at Cosmetic Proof did a great ombre look. (Go check out Jayne’s ombre and while you’re at it Kalyn Lord created a nice tri-tone look). As Jayne suggested (thanks!), I used a towel so the powder wouldn’t get on my clothes, and I wore blue just in case it did. At the end of the day it washed right out with shampoo!

All in all, this hair chalk is pretty fun and I think I’m going to get some more for future events!

If you want to try Hair Chalk or any other Splat products, they can be found at many locations including select Jean Coutu, London Drugs, Walmart, Pharmasave, Rexall/Pharma Plus, IDA, Lawtons Drugs, Shoppers Drugs Mart, Value Drug Mart, Loblaws, Apple Drug Mart and Farleyco.ca.
